In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina

This is the time of year when Bill and I vacation in Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, spending our time strolling the beach, hypnotized by the waves. The sun tanning our faces. Eating spicy steamed shrimp while sipping adult beverages on an oceanfront deck at sunset.

Bliss.

Well, that was when we really went on vacation, which we don’t any more. Instead, we’re on a vacation in our minds. I departed this morning; I want to celebrate my birthday tomorrow at the beach. Bill left a week ago as he was eager to dig into the James Lee Burke novel leftover from last year’s mental getaway.

We’ll return in two weeks, but as I did when we did travel, I’ll check e-mail regularly. In the meantime, I’ve a pile of books waiting for me...right over there...by the comfy couch...And then I’ll nap.

Growing up and into adulthood, my mom frequently told me “You think too much. Don’t think so much.” She probably wanted to spare me the heartbreak and sadness she had in her life. Her advice didn’t stick.

Now in my 60s, encouraged by my husband Bill and a number of friends who’ve read my long, possibly tedious, e-mails on various subjects over the years, I'm putting my thoughts out for the world, or whoever stumbles across this site, to read.

You can’t post comments on this site, but if you’re compulsed to say something, you can drop me a note.
